DonutNV comes to Southern Delaware

Grand opening to be held Jan. 13
January 12, 2024

Getting into the donut business is not something Brad and Kristi Sutliffe planned for, but it’s something they are throwing themselves into wholeheartedly by opening the first Southern Delaware franchise of DonutNV.

The Sutliffes will have the grand opening of their DonutNV truck from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, at Cape Henlopen High School.

Brad and Kristi already owned a Mosquito Shield franchise in Lewes, and Kristi said Brad is always on the lookout for new opportunities. He had heard about DonutNV, originally based in Florida, and was curious about opening a franchise here.

“I said, ‘Why would we even talk about that? You don’t even like donuts,’” Kristi said.

The couple was on vacation in Florida and decided to go and try them. They came away loving them. They did an orientation in Orlando to get familiar with the operation before they got their own truck in mid-December.

DonutNV’s offerings are not like conventional donuts. For one, they are mini-donuts served with toppings added on top, not unlike a funnel cake. The truck has 11 different flavors, including Oreos, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar and rainbow sprinkles, among others. Every month has a specialty flavor, and Kristi said January will be chocolate orange. A fun wrinkle of the truck is the window where customers can see the donuts being made.

“It’s food and a show,” Brad said. “It’s nice to deliver a product that brings a smile to people’s faces.”

Besides donuts, DonutNV also serves coffee and fruit drinks.

“Because we had already franchised a business, we already knew what the process of franchising is and finding the good corporate company to make it easy,” Brad said. “I just thought in this area, this had the potential to be a home run.”

“The important thing for us was that it was a year-round business,” Kristi added. “In the winter time, we can still be out with donuts.”

The Sutliffes have taken the truck out on a few occasions prior to the grand opening, and have brought along their three kids: Nate, Emme and William. They said the kids have enjoyed working in the truck, and get some easy and fun work experience.
