Doris Ann Walsh, devoted church member

Doris Ann Walsh, 82, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Newark, N.J., daughter of the late Robert and Doris (Sherman) Scheider.

Doris was a graduate of West Side High School in Newark, N.J., class of 1959. She lived in New Jersey most of her life, working for Monmouth County Welfare Board and the State of New Jersey. 

She attended Brookdale Community College and Keane College in Union, N.J., graduating with a degree in business administration. After graduating in 1982, she became a social worker and worked for the Division of Youth and Family Services until she retired to Florida with her late husband, Francis Walsh. 

In 2009, she moved to Rehoboth Beach to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She became involved in Epworth United Methodist Church and its community, helping where and when she could. 

Doris will be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous person who worked effortlessly for others. She lived for her grandchildren and loved the summers they would spend in Rehoboth. Her presence will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have had her in their lives.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 2008, Francis Walsh. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine “Lori” Smull (James); her grandchildren, Adam and Hannah Smull; her siblings, Robert Scheider (Jill) and Marylin Simpson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 27, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.
