Doris E. Rogers, great encourager

Doris E. Rogers, 86, lifelong resident of Georgetown, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015.

Doris was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Gardner and Hulda (Adams) Elliott.

She worked most of her career for Sussex County in various departments. Most recently she worked for the County Extension Service, 4-H, University of Delaware Substation and later retired as secretary for Sussex County Council.

She was a member for many years of Grace U.M. Church in Georgetown and had served as Sunday school teacher, on various committees and sang in the choir.

Doris enjoyed keeping busy, especially supporting her grandchildren. Her family described her as being a great listener and encourager. They remembered her fondly for her support and encouragement in pursuing their dreams, no matter what they were.

In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by two husbands: Edwin Joseph Clendaniel and Alton Rogers; and sisters: Thelma, Edith, Iva and Betty.

She is survived by two children, Lawrence Clendaniel and wife Denise of Milford, and Mary Carey and husband Donald of Milton; five grandchildren, Brian Carey and wife Kathryn, Kevin Carey and wife Kassi, Meghan Kemp and husband John, Allison Clendaniel, and Andrea Clendaniel; four great-grandchildren, Anna, Owen, Madison and Logan Carey; and a host of extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at Grace U.M. Church, 7 S. King St., Georgetown, DE 19947. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
