Doris Oakley Taylor, 99, of Virginia, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024. Born May 7, 1925, in Trenton, N.J., Doris lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her community and her many pursuits.

Doris' professional journey began at Peoples Drug Store in Washington, Va., as a young graduate. She went on to work for C&P Telephone Company, then became a hostess at the Annandale Methodist Church helping with dinners and wedding receptions. This is where she found her love for entertaining, which drove her, with the help of her family, to start her own business, Taylor Made Caterers. She remained the president until her retirement, when she decided to sell the business and move to Rehoboth Beach with her husband. There, she became a member of Epworth Methodist Church, and enjoyed the women’s group and her many friendships.

She took immense joy in golfing, entertaining and volunteering her time. Doris was actively involved with Meals on Wheels, Rehoboth Beach Museum, the Lions Club and the Parkinson's Care Group. Her commitment to these causes touched many lives and showcased her generous spirit.

Doris was an active member of Fairfax Country Club, where she and Bob loved to spend their days golfing, along with being a member at Rehoboth Beach Country Club, where she was involved with the Nine Hole Ladies Group which she served as secretary and two years as president.

Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert L. “Bob” Taylor, with whom she shared a blessed marriage of 65 years. She is survived by her daughter, Ginny Dugge and son-in-law Bill Dugge; her grandson, Robert Johnson; and many other cherished family members and friends.

Doris never met a stranger, and enjoyed her later years surrounded by the love and warmth of family and friends, living with Ginny and Bill in Williamsburg, Va.

In lieu of flowers, consider making donations in memory of Doris to Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth, Sentara Hospice and Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Va.
