Doug Barton of Frankford appointed to Coastal Concerts’ board
Coastal Concerts, a Lewes-based presenter of world class chamber music, has announced the appointment of Doug Barton to its board of directors. In February 2017, Barton joined the organization as a volunteer after seeing an ad in the Coastal Point for a Coastal Concerts presentation. He was pleasantly surprised to discover such high-caliber chamber music available in his own backyard.
Barton said, "You typically have to travel to a major city to see important artists like those who perform right here at Coastal Concerts in Lewes. That's what attracted me to the first performance, and that's why I got involved to support the organization."
He is part of a team that provides marketing and communications support for Coastal Concerts. He said, "This is more than a casual interest for me. It's become a hobby. I'm also motivated by the dedication of other volunteers who work so diligently to stage six concerts a year at Bethel Methodist Church Hall along with two to four outreach performances in neighboring communities. Coastal Concerts also grants music scholarships and accepts instrument donations to give to students in need."
Barton is a real estate agent with Long & Foster in Bethany Beach. He and his wife Millie are residents of Forest Landing, where he also serves on the master board for the homeowners association.
