Dover Speedway creates auction package to benefit former public relations director
Dover International Speedway is creating a special June 3 auction package to benefit former Public Relations Director Al Robinson. The all-inclusive package includes two passes to the Dover Motorsports Inc. luxury suite Sunday, June 3; two pit passes for June 3; an overnight stay at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino June 3; complimentary breakfast buffet Monday, June 4; and a Monster Racing four-lap ride package June 4.
To participate in the online auction go to http://bit.ly/DoverMonster. The auction ends Monday, May 14.
Robinson has been involved in racing for more than 40 years in various capacities and served as public relations director at Dover International Speedway for more than a decade. He suffered a debilitating stroke May 11, 2001, which has left him in need of 24-hour care. At Elderwood Care Facility in Waverly, N.Y., he has been working hard through physical therapy, but still has a long way to go.
Because of mounting medical costs, Robinson is facing a significant financial hardship. A group of Robinson’s friends have come together to create a family-oriented event May 11-12, at Shangri-La II Motorspeedway in Tioga Center, N.Y. All proceeds from the event will go to Robinson.
Planned events include a track walk, pace car rides, kid’s activities, a bonfire, race memorabilia auctions, show car displays and much more. A special section with more information about the event has been added to www.shangrila-2.com, under the schedule tab.
Monetary donations for Robinson may be sent by check to The Spalding Foundation, c/o Betty Sherwood, 1074 Sulpher Springs Road, Owego, N.Y., 13827. Write "Al Robinson Fund" on the comment line. All money and check donations specified for the Al Robinson Fund will go to Al Robinson.
