Dr. Linda Mays Givens, dedicated to education

Dr. Linda Mays Givens, 70, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at her home. She was born Saturday, Aug. 23,1947, in Shreveport, La., daughter of the late E. Jack and Dolores Mays.

Linda and her husband, Michael Wayne Givens, decided to move to Rehoboth Beach upon retirement to fulfill their dream of living at the beach in an inclusive and accessible community. Linda enjoyed going to the beach, watching LSU football with her husband, and spending time with her grandchildren. She dedicated her life to education, advocacy, and caring for her husband. Linda touched and positively impacted the lives of so many. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Dr. Givens was preceded in death by her sister, Cheryl Thomas. She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Michael Wayne Givens of Rehoboth Beach; her son, Travis Givens of Fort Wayne, Ind.; her daughter, Amanda Feeman of Chatham, N.J.; and her grandchildren: Jack Givens, Georgia Givens, Samantha Givens, Madison Feeman and Hailey Feeman.
The family will hold a private memorial service at the beach Saturday, Jan. 13. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the American Heart Association Go Red Campaign to further research in the area of women's heart disease: 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
