Dr. Uday Jani to discuss spirituality in medicine June 12

June 7, 2024

Dr. Uday Jani will discuss spirituality in medicine from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 211 Mulberry St., Lewes.

Attendees will learn about the importance of caring for body, mind and especially spirit. “Modern medicine prides itself on being rational, evidence-based and secular. Yet for much of human history, society relied on religion to frame disease and its treatment. In our shift to technological marvels and advanced procedures, have we lost one of the most critical tools for dealing with illness and embracing hope?” said Jani, an integrative medicine physician. He said he believes a strong spiritual foundation is essential to thriving in even the most difficult life situations.

“Spirituality is defined as the aspect of humanity in which people seek meaning, purpose and transcendence,” said Jani. “Feeling the connection to a higher power can take many forms, from prayer to a walk in nature, to serving others in the community. The spiritual experience is very different for each person, and requires a willingness to dig deep and accept that your journey must be your own.”

Jani blends the best of traditional, integrative and functional medicine at his Milton-based concierge practice, Shore View Personalized Medical Care. He believes in treating the whole person utilizing an evidence-based, integrative approach to best facilitate each patient’s innate healing response.

Jani completed his residency at North Shore University Hospital in New York, followed by a two-year integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona. He later trained at the Institute for Functional Medicine in Minneapolis. At Beebe Healthcare, he previously served as director of integrative health and chaired the medical department.
