Drummaking - Creating our Spirit Drum registration due Aug. 29

August 26, 2022

HealTree will present Drummaking - Creating our Spirit Drum, facilitated by the Rev. Sue Greer, from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9, and 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1632 Savannah Road, Suite 9, Lewes. Preregistration is required by Monday, Aug. 29, at healtree.co.

Drummaking is a process of creation and a deepening of the relationship to oneself. Drums are ancient tools for communication, both physically and spiritually; almost all cultures have some type of a drum. Rim drums in particular are used for ceremony, to call in spirits, to ask for strength and courage, to deepen one's spiritual path.

In this workshop participants will come together first to bring honor and life to the tree and animal that has given the material to craft their drum.

On Friday, participants will journey, through ceremony, to the spirit of the deer (or other hides) and the tree that have given their lives to make the drum. This will build personal connection and relationship to the life of the drums. The hides will be placed in water overnight to gather the energy from the night sky, and regain their vitality and softness to be formed into the drumheads.

On Saturday, participants will begin to build the drum. The process of making the drum will be done with mindfulness and intent to “birth” the drums into being. This process can reveal participants' own relationship to life and connection or disconnection to being here and alive. The drums will come into being through labor and intention, and become the voice and the expression of spirit.

Greer has led drummaking workshops for over 30 years, with hundreds of living spirit drums made and enjoyed. Materials used are gathered in conscious and humane methods and come from hunters and crafts makers who care about the earth and its gifts to its inhabitants.

Investment is $320 and all materials are included. Space is limited.
