Duffield's Guy Marcozzi gets 2012 Engineer of the Year Award

The Delaware Engineering Society has selected Guy F. Marcozzi, PE, LEED AP BD+C, FASCE, president of Duffield Associates, as the recipient of the 2012 Engineer of the Year Award. Candidates for this recognition are chosen from Delaware’s registered professional engineers who exhibit exceptional contributions to the engineering profession and exemplary involvement in community activities and technical contributions.

Marcozzi was nominated based on his consistent demonstration of technical excellence, professionalism, and commitment to the profession and community.

Marcozzi is a graduate of St. Mark’s High School and the University of Delaware, where he earned his bachelor of science in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering and a master of science in civil engineering with a focus on geotechnical and foundation engineering. He is nationally recognized as an American Society of Civil Engineers fellow for his contributions to the profession and by ASFE, the Geoprofessional Business Association, for his contributions to its sustainability efforts as part of the emerging issues and trends committee. He was honored by the Delaware Council of Engineering Societies as the first Delaware Young Engineer of the Year in 2000.

Over the course of his career, Marcozzi has been an active participant in many Delaware engineering organizations and has served as president of the Delaware Engineering Society, Delaware Association of Professional Engineers and American Society of Civil Engineers-Delaware Section. He is also a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers as well as a voting member of the ASTM sustainability and soil and rock committees. He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware College of Engineering and is on the advisory committee for the Department of Civil Engineering. He has served on the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee and as chair of the Business Development Committee for its Economic Development Council. Marcozzi is a registered professional engineer in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Vermont and the District of Columbia.

Marcozzi is the third engineer from Duffield Associates to receive this award. Previous recipients include the founder of the firm, James F. Duffield, PE, now retired, and Jeffrey M. Bross, PE, chairman of the firm.  Bross said, "Guy Marcozzi’s selection reflects Duffield Associates’ longstanding commitment to promote technical excellence and a culture of supporting our profession and giving back to the communities in which we work."

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized in the same company as some of my engineering heroes,” said Marcozzi.

The firm provides consulting in water and natural resources, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental services, coastal/waterfront engineering, solid waste handling/ landfills and construction review testing services.
