Edwin Fielding Browne, man of faith
Edwin “Ed” Fielding Browne, 92, of Milton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at Cadia Renaissance Healthcare in Millsboro.
Ed was born June 2, 1932, in Queens, N.Y., son of the late Edwin and Ida (Henthorn) Browne. He spent most of his adult years living in New Jersey, moving to Delaware 20 years ago, in 2004.
He was a union carpenter in Queens before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He honorably served in the Korean War with the 712th Army Engineer Company, while also serving as the company newspaper editor. After the military, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Hofstra University and a master’s degree from New York University.
His early career involved MIS consulting and management with several banking institutions and large accounting firms in NYC. A significant part of his life was spent working domestically and internationally as a software engineer and executive for ITT World Headquarters in information security and crisis management. Later he was a corporate auditor for New Jersey Transit, from which he retired. During his retirement, his intellectual curiosity was bolstered by community college fine arts courses, painting, history, travel, writing poetry, and sharing stories with others. He was an avid researcher, completing an exhaustive genealogy culminating in a 300-page family memoir of his and his ancestors' lives.
Ed was married to Lana Browne for 42 wonderful years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Christopher (Aimee) of Belchertown, Mass., Cynthia (Curtis) of Merida, Mexico, Jennifer (Walter) of Plano, Texas, and Peter of Saint Croix; and stepchildren Suzanne (James) of Memphis, Tenn., and Phillip (Michele) of Dillon, Colo. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; a twin brother, Robert A. Browne; and a sister, Ruth Greening.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him—a man of faith, a loving family member, a patriot, and a passionate seeker of knowledge.
A memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Hobart, Ind.
