November 1, 2023

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market board members are happy to announce the promotion of Eleanor “Ellie” Shue to executive director of the nonprofit dedicated to preserving farmland in Delmarva and providing food access to those in need.

“The board is very excited to work with Ellie in her new role. Ellie has been with us for almost three years, and has proven her abilities to work with data, deadlines, farmers, customers and strategic partners,” said Helaine Harris, Historic Lewes Farmers Market board chair. “As a young girl, Ellie visited the market often with her grandmother, and has a true passion and commitment to the HLFM mission.”

Shue joined the HLFM three years ago, and for the past nine months has held the position of operations manager. She has successfully played an increasingly key role in both executive and operational duties while guiding market operations, and working on different HLFM programs and funding opportunities including grant design and management.

Ellie graduated from American University, and before joining the Historic Lewes Farmers Market, worked as a grants administrator and D.C. office manager for The Public Interest Network in Washington, D.C. As the HLFM operations manager, she has taken on more responsibility this past year, and is the key team leader managing the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program.

As executive director, Shue will oversee the strategic and operational efficiencies of HLFM programs and staff. She will be responsible for achieving goals and objectives set in collaboration with the board of directors and development committee. Shue shared her gratitude and enthusiasm for this promotion, saying, “I am incredibly thankful for the support and positivity that I have received from everyone who is a part of the HLFM community. I look forward to maintaining the vision of the Historic Lewes Farmers Market while also driving this organization toward meeting that mission in new and exciting ways.”

The HLFM board of directors congratulates Shue on her outstanding contributions to the HLFM in the past three years, and her new position as executive director.
