Emens Auditorium selects Julie Borden to create art piece for 50th anniversary
Julie Borden is an artist widely recognized for creating one-of-a-kind, beautifully hand-painted, full-size musical instruments. For more than 10 years, Borden has created pieces for clients, art galleries, corporate events and for her own gallery, Juleez, at 1 North First St. in Rehoboth Beach.
The unique collection of Juleez painted instruments has been a special draw for the public. A master of color and painting, Borden combines the world of musical instruments with fine art.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Emens Auditorium, Ball State University contacted Juleez to create a special piece.
The hand-painted violin was commissioned by Robert Myers, director of the Emens Auditorium, for the 50th celebration. Myers is planning on showcasing the Strunal 260 Series Patterns violin prominently in the Emens Auditorium reception area or main lobby.
The Emens Patterns Violin is also featured on the front and back of the Emens Auditorium program for the 2013-14 performing arts schedule. “The work of Julie Borden features compelling expressions of color. This stunning painted violin hints at a fascinating dichotomy of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art,” said Myers.
Juleez Gallery Manager Guy Peluso also expressed his excitement that Juleez is a part of the celebration. Borden said, "I was truly honored to be commissioned to create a special piece for them and to become part of their permanent art collection. It's a wonderful school, and the Emens Auditorium is an amazing showcase for the piece. I wish them another 50 years of excellence."
