Eugene Melchiorre Jr., proud veteran

Eugene Melchiorre Jr., 90, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away at home in his sleep Wednesday, March 8, 2023. He was born July 2, 1932, in Chester, Pa., son of the late Eugene and Anna (DiPietro) Melchiorre.

A proud veteran, Eugene served his country in the U.S. Army. He joined the Army in May 1953 and was stationed in Austria in November 1953 with the Army's 350th Infantry Regiment. After his honorable discharge, he started working in the retail industry, and following his retirement, he worked for Bob's Bikes in Rehoboth Beach. Eugene married the love of his life, Dolores J. Melchiorre, May 24, 1958, and together they enjoyed 65 beautiful years. Eugene was an avid outdoorsman who at every opportunity presented enjoyed camping, fishing, and relaxing with his friends and family. He truly treasured the time spent with those he held most dear above all. As a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, his presence will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his son James Melchiorre; and his brother Frank Melchiorre. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dolores J. (DeMaio) Melchiorre; his son, Eugene Nick Melchiorre; his sisters, Caroline Melchiorre and Anna Taylor; and his brother, Patrick Melchiorre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 24, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Eugene’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, stjude.org; or Parkinson Research Foundation, parkinson.org/?utm.
