Fallen heroes honored at AmVets Post 2 ceremony
American Veterans Post 2 in Millsboro hosted a crowd of veterans, families and local dignitaries for a heartfelt Memorial Day ceremony. It was a poignant and somber remembrance to those who gave their lives to preserve freedom.
“Today is to honor those that have given that last, full measure of devotion that Abraham Lincoln referred to so eloquently in his address at Gettysburg 161 years ago,” said Sen. Brian Pettyjohn, R-Georgetown. “Today is about the men and women who gave that ultimate sacrifice.”
The day included a moving rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Cynthia Webb, an MIA ceremony by Tom Jones and Buzzie Biggs, and a reading of “I Am the Flag” by Bill Willard. The event concluded with lunch and a reception.
Post 2 Commander Dave Heffline expressed his gratitude for the community's support, noting the significance of coming together to honor those who served.
