We are writing on behalf of our family and our local business in response to recent public statements made by Rep. Bryan Shupe regarding our participation in the political process. These accusations have been not only distressing but also misleading, and it is essential to address these points to set the record straight.
Our family has been a proud member of the Milford community, born and raised here, for generations. Our mission has always been to serve our community by providing affordable housing for Delaware families, creating jobs, and contributing to the local economy. Through our efforts over four decades in the construction business, and together with many employees and professional tradesmen and women, we have built more than 2,500 homes and consistently supported other local businesses through our projects and operations.
Our family's commitment to Milford extends beyond bricks and mortar. We have actively participated in community service, sponsored local events, and collaborated with nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life for all residents. The positive impact of our work can be seen in the smiles of the many families who now have a place to call home and the local economy that benefits from our investments.
Regarding the recent allegations by Shupe, we would like to emphasize that our contributions to the political process are a reflection of our constitutional rights as American citizens. The First Amendment guarantees every person the right to free speech and to support causes and candidates of their choosing.
We are among many in the 36th District who believe it is time for a conservative to represent us in the General Assembly. Our donations to Shupe's political opponent were made in the spirit of civic engagement, with the belief that a healthy republic thrives on robust political debate and representatives who stand by the principles of the people in their district.
Hypocritically, Shupe has accepted political contributions from developers, builders, real estate organizations, lobbyists, big pharmaceutical companies, political action committees and more. While singling out a local family and their business in his politically motivated, self-serving attacks, he is guilty of the very same thing he condemns others for.
It is our firm belief that everyone should have the right to participate in the political process without fear of retribution or public vilification. Such participation is fundamental to the democratic principles upon which our nation is built, and we firmly stand by our decision to engage in the political process and encourage others to exercise their rights to do the same.
We urge Shupe to focus on the substantive issues at hand and to engage in constructive dialogue regarding our state government, rather than attacking constituents who do not support his liberal voting record as state representative. Our community deserves leadership that prioritizes the well-being and rights of its residents, and fosters an environment of respect and collaboration.
