A late-night fire caused $250,000 in damage to the Red Mill Inn north of Lewes. Lewes firefighters, with assistance from Rehoboth Beach, Milton and Slaughter Beach, responded to the blaze about 10:45 p.m., Dec. 5.
Occupants of two rooms were alerted by the motel's alarm system and were able to evacuate without injury. They were moved to one of the unaffected buildings in the motel complex.
State Fire Marshal Randall Lee determined the fire started in the ceiling of one of the inn's three structures. The cause has not yet been determined.
