Five-star cardiac care at Beebe saved my life

February 28, 2023

I had a quadruple bypass in October at Beebe Healthcare. My heart was a ticking time bomb, and I had no idea. Beebe Healthcare literally saved my life, and my only regret is that I’ve not written sooner to express my gratitude for stellar cardiac care, for the nurses who were kind and responsive, and for every moment of the almost one-on-one treatment I received at Beebe Healthcare.

My wife and I moved to this area permanently in 2016 from Pennsylvania, where I worked for a major healthcare system as an ultrasound technician on the cardiac floor. We love the community here and regularly enjoy recreational dancing. We are delighted to have connected with like-minded folks so we can keep our dancing shoes moving. In the last quarter of 2022, however, I’d noticed that I couldn’t keep dancing as long as usual. I also noticed a slight tightness in my chest, and that sent me to cardiologist Robert Myers, MD.

Dr. Myers scheduled me for a catheterization, and during the bloodwork portion of my procedure, he went out of the room to speak with my wife. He informed her, and then me, that I had two major arterial blockages; one artery was 90% blocked and another was 80% blocked. Dr. Myers is an exceptional cardiologist. He quickly involved cardiothoracic surgeon Steven Marra, MD, and I was the beneficiary of a quadruple bypass at Beebe using the coronary artery bypass graft procedure.

Both Dr. Myers and Dr. Marra are terrific, and I cannot say enough good things about the excellent care I received from everyone. Every step of the way, I felt surprisingly calm. The team went above and beyond to explain everything to my wife and me, and all our questions were answered to our satisfaction. I want to thank everyone involved in the five-star care I received at Beebe, including Carlos Neves, MD, Eugene Isaac, Marguerite Recicar, Patricia Bradley, Barbara Atkins, Katherine Cessna, Cynthia Clem, Roxanne Elliott, Patricia Gregg, Harry Lewis, Kylie McKune and Sean West.

Beyond surgery, I’ve been in cardiac rehab at the Rehoboth Health Campus, and everyone there has been remarkable. Kind, caring, super-competent and patient, the team at cardiac rehab is simply the best. And when I looked up from one of my rehab sessions to see Dr. David Tam (Beebe Healthcare president/CEO) in the facility, I had to tell him my story and express my gratitude for every member of that incredible team.

Dr. Tam asked me to share my experience, and I’m happy I get to do that during American Heart Month. My life was saved at Beebe Healthcare, and I’m getting stronger every day thanks to the superstars at Beebe’s Cardiac Rehabilitation. I’m even back on the dance floor! Thanks to all!
