On Sunday, the Eagles won the Super Bowl over the Kansas City Chiefs by the score of 40-22, but it wasn’t even that close. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 34-6! The Eagles played the perfect game, and it was more impressive because they were able to prevent the Chiefs from making history by being the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
The defense led the way. They had six sacks on Patrick Mahomes and could have had seven or eight. The defensive line completely dominated the line of scrimmage. I don’t know what was wrong with the Chiefs’ offensive line. They were absolutely terrible. Patrick Mahomes had no help at all. I had a great feeling about the outcome of the game when Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean was able to run back an interception for a touchdown to make it 17-0 in the second quarter.
The passing game of the Eagles’ offense was very successful as well. Their wide receivers ran up and down the field at will. The one thing the Chiefs did well was slow down Saquon Barkley's run game. He only had 57 yards rushing, but he also had six catches for 40 yards. Kicker Jake Elliott had his best game of the season, scoring 16 points including four field goals.
It was not completely obvious who was going to win the MVP trophy until pretty late in the game, but Jalen Hurts earned it. He was great in the second half. The defense played so well it was difficult to single out one player who deserved the trophy. The NFL should consider including the whole offense or defense in the MVP voting. I think the media should stop trying to put pressure on next year's team to do this again. Just enjoy the fact that the Birds actually won the Super Bowl!
Baseball spring training starts this week. I hope that means no more snow here in Delaware and that warmer temperatures are on the way. I think the Phillies will make the playoffs pretty easily, but that is the only prediction I will make until the season is about to start. I think there are three key players who must have good seasons for the Phillies to be successful this year. They are Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola and Bryson Stott. I’m anxious about Wheeler and Nola just because of how many innings they have both pitched over their successful careers. They definitely need to stay healthy for the whole season for the team to have a chance to contend for the division championship like last year. Bryson Stott needs to perform a whole lot better at the plate to fulfill the potential ] he showed two years ago to help the Phillies lineup be as productive as it should be!
