Francis A. Green Jr., retired police officer
Francis A. Green Jr., 81, of Lewes, and formerly of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024. Born in Wilmington Nov. 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Francis A. Sr. and Eleanor V. (Amoroso) Green.
Franny was a graduate of Salesianum School and attended University of Delaware. He served as a police officer with the City of Wilmington Police Department, having retired in 1984 after 19 years of service. Following his career as a police officer, Franny was employed as a fraud investigator with Wilmington Trust Company and retired from his second career in 2004 after another 19 years of service. He was also certified as a polygraph examiner.
Franny will be dearly missed by his wife of 37 years, Maria Aiello Green; his children, Lisa Blanchette (Tim), Claire Monigle (William), Frank Green III (Mary), Julie Ziegler (J.T.) and Jason Mahon (Jill); his grandchildren, Joseph and Mahlon Ziegler, and Hanna Strick. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, George Green, Eleanor Ann Green and Robert Green.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 10 to 11:45 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont sts., Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, immediately followed by interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Ashland.
