Friendly Flowers florist will hold a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 6, for its location at 105 Lavinia St. in Milton, the former site of longtime local business Hillside Florist. The original Friendly Flowers location on Coastal Highway will be closed.
The new facility will have a larger retail area featuring local creators, including Shore Smoke Seasonings, the B.A.D Little Soap Shop, Backyard Jams and Jellies, Henlopen Candle Works, Forest Song Gifts and others.
The shop will also carry local and international artisan-crafted jewelry, cremation jewelry, pet memorials, cremation urns, bridal crowns, incense, teas, handmade sublimation cups, statues, keepsakes, cards and more.
To honor the memory of the owner’s grandparents, who played an important part in their life and business history, the shop is adding Pops Corner, which creates outdoor yard furniture, swing sets, arches, benches and wooden yard decorations. A special touch is Cookies for Cancer, made locally using their grandmother’s recipes.
The shop’s delivery area includes all of Sussex County and lower Kent County using Door Dash, and there will be drivers hired as well.
Friendly Flowers offers floral design classes called Wine and Design. In-house classes are available for groups of five or fewer, and it’s possible to set up design parties at local restaurants, communities, clubhouses or homes, great for bachelorette parties, baby showers, birthday parties, girls’ nights, or just a fun evening get-together.
There will be many events coming this year including butterfly educational release, motorcycle ride for cancer in partnership with a local motorcycle club, bridal show, haunted Halloween walk-through to raise money for an agricultural scholarship, and a design class for those who want to become certified floral designers.
The proprietors plan to be an active part of the community, and give back where they can. Everyone is invited to stop by and see the new setup, and meet rescue dogs Vali and Bear.
