Fuller family runners dominate Penn State College Day 5K

Brian Fuller extends his unbeaten streak to 13

Brian Fuller, 38, a Penn State graduate from Mechanicsburg, Pa., remained unbeaten at the beach and extended his streak to 13 by winning the Penn State College Day 5K in 15:27. Fuller held off Brian Dreibelbis, 42, who ran 16:09.

“The Penn State guy ran away from me,” said Dreibelbis, the day’s top masters runner.

The Fuller brothers, Brian, Kevin and Mark, and their running wives have been vacationing for a week in Dewey since before they were married. They are now warming up with babies in buggies. 

Looking at the Fuller finishes, it was Kevin, 44, placing third in 17:10 and Mark, 33, placing fourth in 17:24. 

Emily Fuller, 35, was the first woman in 19:19, just ahead of Mary Fuller, 35, in 19:23. Katie Fuller, 32, ran 20:08, giving the Fuller girls the top three spots on the podium. 

A total of 295 runners completed the race. The top 33 runners ran under a seven-minute-per-mile pace. 

Notables - Bobby Hutton, 60, won his age group in 19:59. Debra Issler, 70, improved on her age group 5K state record by running 23:14. Woody Disharoon, 75, won his age group, breaking 30 minutes in 29:21.

The next Races2Run beach race is the Community Matters 5K set for Saturday, Aug. 10, at Northbeach in Dewey Beach.
