Years in the making, Fur Baby Pet Resort has opened a holiday pop-up shop in Tanger Outlets Seaside, just outside Rehoboth Beach.

Fur Baby Pet Resort opened its original location 13 years ago in Milford. Almost immediately, owner Sherry Shupe said, customers began asking for a second location closer to the beach.

“Clients have been bugging us to come down here for years,” she said.

Located near Ulta Beauty, Shupe described her latest endeavor as “dipping their toes” into the Cape Region’s business scene. The plan is to open this boutique, see how things go, then go from there, she said.

“The goal right now is to focus on the holidays; to turn this place into a winter wonderland,” said Shupe.

The Rehoboth location is offering the business’ full range of nutritional and retail supplies. There’s a wide variety of biologically appropriate dog and cat food in raw, frozen and dried forms, said Shupe.

James Shaffer, Shupe’s brother and Fur Baby Pet Resort director of operations, will be the store manager. The food offered has limited ingredients and high protein, without all the filler, he said.

Bags of food might cost more, but it takes less food to feed a pet because it’s getting full from real food, not a bunch of additives, said Shupe. That means the per-meal cost doesn’t end up being as expensive as people think, she said.

For now, Fur Baby Pet Resort in Rehoboth Beach doesn’t provide its daycare, overnight stays, wellness or grooming services, but that could change. Shupe and Shaffer are looking for a location that would allow for those services.

“We’re actively in the market,” said Shaffer.

Fur Baby Pet Resort, 36470 Seaside Outlet Drive, Suite 1420, Rehoboth Beach, is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday.
