Gail Giles, devoted to family

November 16, 2023

Gail Giles, 88, of Rehoboth Beach passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023.

She was born Feb. 6, 1935, in Wilmington, the beloved daughter of Paul and Helen (Dale) Godwin.

Gail met the love of her life, John R. “Jack” Giles, and they were married for 65 amazing years until his passing in 2020. Together they raised three boys, Rusty, Jeff and Jason, at their homes in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach. The joy in Gail’s life came from being with Jack, especially when surrounded by her family and many friends. Everyone enjoyed her delicious casseroles, homemade chili sauce and tins of her famous Christmas cookies. Gail loved playing her daily Sudoku puzzle and cheering on favorite teams, the Phillies and the Eagles.

Gail will be missed by her sons, John “Rusty” Giles (Joan), Jeffrey (Juli) and Jason (Debbie). She is Mom-Mom to grandchildren Justin, Emily, Tyler, Kristina Vincelette (CJ), Katie, Jack and Joe. She will also be missed by her nieces, Sue Forrest (Joe) and Joy Peoples (Jeff). The family would like to thank the wonderful people who cared for Gail in the past month. A special thanks to Betty Sharp. You were more than a caretaker for Gail; you were her friend.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, at St. Edmond Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, with viewing starting at 10 a.m. Private interment will be at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Final care has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
