Garden club dedicates tree in memory of Milton matriarch Betts

October 10, 2024

Members of the Milton Garden Club dedicated a tree Oct. 6, along Governor’s Walk in memory of the late Leah Betts. Betts was an honorary member of the club and former Milton councilwoman.

Betts, who died Jan. 13 at the age of 91, took an active part in the club, and attended meetings and helped with fundraising. She also served as the garden club’s advocate on town council, and helped secure a $2,000 donation from Sussex County Council before her passing.

To honor her efforts, the club decided to plant a tree in her honor along the walkway adjacent to the Broadkill River along Mulberry Street. Club President Gillian Benson selected and arranged the planting of the tree.
