Generosity abounds in the Cape Region

May 10, 2024

Every weekend - and many weeknights too - here in the Cape Region, community events gather people around a common cause. Often, these events set out to help fund the nonprofit organizations that are the backbone of our community. In addition, they bring people from all walks of life together, strengthening connections and building lasting bonds.

More amazingly, these events are well-funded, primarily via sponsorships from our very generous local businesses and business owners. Make no mistake, this is not the norm everywhere. The level at which our locally owned and operated businesses put back into the community here in the Cape Region is unusually high and should be recognized.

The Cape Gazette is proud and excited to host its second annual Run and Fun Fest this weekend in the Nassau Commons. Our neighboring businesses here in the Commons come together to provide the space and assistance for an event of this scale. Even more businesses sponsor the event to help us provide a little something for everyone.

The morning starts off with a scenic 5K run through the Nassau Valley Vineyard which then heads up and back on the Lewes-Georgetown Trail. The day continues with a mixed-doubles pickleball tournament at Dave Marshall Tennis and Pickleball and a basketball shootout at Factory Sports. The festival portion of the day is open to the public with family-friendly activities, food trucks, a beer garden, live entertainment and more.

Our sponsors help bring all of this to life. Their support and extreme generosity allow for the event to culminate with a significant donation to the Harry K Foundation which exists to ensure no child in Delaware goes to bed hungry.

Please join us this Saturday as we celebrate a sense of community here in the Nassau Commons. For a full schedule of the days events, visit runandfunfest.com.
