George H. Dickerson Jr., former police officer, town manager

George H. Dickerson Jr. of Milton passed away peacefully Monday, June 3, 2024, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 28, 1951, in Milford.

George, known as “Poncho” by his friends, graduated from Georgetown High School. He pursued a career as a police officer, serving with several municipal agencies. He served as chairman of Delaware Police Chiefs Council. He attended the 186th session of the FBI National Academy. He later worked as town manager in Camden and Milton.

He was a member of Jefferson Masonic Lodge AF & AM  No. 15 in Lewes. George was an avid bass fisherman and a lifetime member of Bassmasters.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Gale; a son, Donald E. Jefferson (Kym); five grandchildren, Mikala Warner (Mike), Reese A. Crocket (Father Mike), Donald Luke Jefferson, Skyler Butler (Katelyn) and Tristin Butler (Jessica); and four great-grandchildren, Mayleigh Lynne Warner, Kota Warner, Aubree Butler and Paislee Butler.

Memorial contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
