George Harvey Carlyle, devoted to family
George Harvey Carlyle, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Georgetown Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024. He was born April 30, 1945, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late George R. Carlyle and Margaret J. (Hill) Carlyle.
A devoted father, Harvey worked for Delmarva Sporting Clays for the past 15 years, finding joy in his daily work. He was a passionate rifle and gun collector, as well as an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. His enthusiasm for life extended to his commitment as a proud Mason and a dedicated member of Hope Lodge No. 4, Laurel.
Harvey was a steadfast supporter of law enforcement, particularly through his involvement in honoring the fallen heroes of the police, known as The Men In Blue. His life in Pasadena, Md., before moving to Delaware, was filled with cherished friendships, which he carried with him throughout his life.
Known for his immense humor and wisdom, Harvey will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, and kindness. His devotion to his family and friends was unwavering, and his presence brought warmth and laughter to those around him.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved, wife Rosalee Carlyle, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage; and his sister, Judith Jeeter. He is survived by his loving children, Belinda Boothe, Julie Serio Carney (Dennis) and Rosalee Sweitzer (Christopher); his cherished grandchildren, Anastasia Serio Whalen, Theresa Scott, Joseph Serio, Katrina Sweitzer, Kira Sweitzer and Kraven Sweitzer; and his adored great-grandchildren: Huxley Scott, Leah Scott and Vivian Whalen. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Dobbs; and brother-in-law, Samuel Jeeter.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, as requested by the family.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
