Georgetown man, 26, dies following Harmons Hill Road crash
A Georgetown man died following a single-car crash June 11 on Harmons Hill Road.
The crash happened at 1:33 a.m. when a Georgetown man, 26, was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang westbound on Harmons Hill Road approaching a slight left curve east of Hollyville Road, and he failed to maintain control of the vehicle, said Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police. The car exited the south edge of the roadway while rotating counterclockwise, Hatchell said, and the right rear of the Ford struck a large metal utility pole. As a result of this impact, he said, the car rotated violently in a clockwise direction and came to rest just south of the utility pole.
The driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, Hatchell said, and he later died from his injuries. Identification is pending notification to the next of kin.
A male front-seat passenger was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Harmons Hill Road in the area of the collision was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
