Georgetown man dies in car crash near Harbeson
A Georgetown man, 27, died May 13 following a single-car crash off Route 9 near Harbeson.
The crash happened at 5:02 p.m., as a 2020 Ford Eco Sport was traveling westbound on Route 9 west of Fawn Lane. Police said the Ford ran off the north edge of the roadway and began to rotate in a clockwise direction as it continued in a northwesterly direction, said Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police.
The driver’s side of the Ford struck a large tree off the roadway, Hatchell said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.
Route 9 was closed at Fawn Lane for about three hours while the crash was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
