Georgetown Pack 95 has been busy since the scout program year started in September.
Kicking off the year with the Trails End popcorn sales, the Cub Scouts did a great job of selling at various locations as well as online. The September pack meeting was held in Jones Hall at Wesley Church and was enjoyed by all. Several new members joined, helping the pack grow from 18 scouts to 30. Five Tiger Cubs earned the rank of Bobcat and enjoyed sharing the recognition ceremony with their parents.
Also in September, the Arrow of Light scouts in fifth grade went on a camping trip to Killens Pond State Park with Boy Scout Troop 95. Pack 95 scouts worked on their outdoor adventure requirements with the help of the Boy Scouts.
At the October pack meeting, scouts dressed in their favorite costumes and each den shared a Halloween skit. Pack 95 also participated in Georgetown’s scarecrow display, placing “Cubbie” on one of the lampposts to wave hello to passersby.
The November pack meeting saw another Tiger recognized for earning the Bobcat rank. Special guests Tina Yocum, an anatomy and physiology instructor from Delaware Tech, and student Chasity Riley helped kick off STEM month for the scouts. Science was the topic as Yocum and Riley dissected two fetal pigs while explaining the some of the similarities between human organs and pig organs. The scouts were thrilled to watch and learn.
To complete several outdoor requirements, 18 scouts met at Trap Pond Nov. 19, where they gathered for brief den meetings, talking about the six essentials needed for hiking and starting their treks on the Bob Trail. The scouts needed to identify plants, trees and animal tracks. After the hike, they visited the nature center and played an energetic game of kickball. Back at camp, everyone enjoyed a campfire, roasting hotdogs and performing skits.
The Cub Scouts, leaders and parents helped bring Santa to town Dec. 1, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas as they walked in front of the Santa float supported by Boy Scout Troop 95.
At the December meeting, scouts will bring warm winter attire donations for families in need, including mittens, gloves, scarves and hats. Scouts also will purchase their mini car kits to get ready for Pinewood Derby Sunday, Jan. 29, at Wesley Church.
Additional upcoming events include Scout Sunday, Feb. 12, at Wesley Church, and the Blue and Gold banquet set for Monday, March 6.
Comprising scouts in kindergarten through fifth grades, Pack 95 meets on the third Wednesday of each month in Jones Hall at Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown.
