Gertie Thomas, exceptional cook

Gertie Thomas, 79, of Lewes, passed away after a brief illness Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at Christiana Care Health Systems, Newark. She was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Press, Ky., daughter of the late Ernie and Gracie (Hudson) Prater.

Mrs. Thomas was a very active member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Md., where she participated in their bowling league. She was a long term member of the Fellowship Committee and a member of the Church Council. Mrs. Thomas enjoyed volunteering countless hours at the Meals on Wheels and cooking church dinners. She also was a member of the Altar Guild for many years.

Mrs. Thomas was an exceptional cook who loved preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. She loved taking vacations and bus trips with her family, and spending time with her friends. Her favorite location to visit was Maryland Live Casino which she referred to as the "Casina."

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Spencer Thomas, in May of 2014. She is survived by her three sons: Melvin N. Jourdain, Alvin M. Jourdain and Bradley R. Thomas and his wife Charmaine; a daughter, Brenda L. Perry and her husband Bradley; and four grandchildren: Alison Jourdain, Heather Rath and her husband T.J., Brandon Perry and his wife Chelsea and Brittany Perry.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at 11:30 a.m., at Christ Lutheran Church, 701 S. Charles St., Baltimore, Md., where friends may visit beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Thomas' memory to Christ Lutheran Church, 701 S. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21230.
