Get jazzy at Historic Lewes Farmers Market

October 13, 2022

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be celebrating Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival weekend on Saturday, Oct. 15. The market opens at 9 a.m., and a live performance by saxophonist Reggie Harris and friends will fill the market with music between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon. Visit and experience the tastes and smells of an autumn farmers market, all the while listening to great jazz.

The fall harvest will be in full swing, and favorite market vendors will be there offering all the bounties of a fall harvest, including delicata and other winter squashes, baby kale, potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, lettuces, pears, apples, apple cider, mushrooms, pork, chicken, beef, live and picked crab, crabcakes, crab dip, crab soups, oysters, freshly laid eggs, fall soups, breads, cakes, pies, gluten-free breads and desserts, jams and jellies, breakfast pastries, milk, yogurt, kombucha, locally roasted coffee and coffee drinks, and beautiful flower bouquets and wreaths.

Customers are reminded the market is now located at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon The market will be at Lewes Elementary through Nov. 19. Not only is the Historic Lewes Farmers Market a producer-only, where-the-farmers-are market, but it is also a rain or shine market.

Parking is limited at the market as the Shields Elementary School parking lot is still fenced off due to construction. Customers are advised to either walk or bike to the market. The market thanks Beebe Healthcare for allowing customers to also park in the outdoor Beebe lot in back of the hospital. Customers can enter that parking area through the main entrance to the hospital, between Rite Aid and the hospital. There is also some parking on nearby streets. Limited handicap parking is available in the Lewes Elementary bus parking lot.

The market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market. WIC and SFMNP coupons will be accepted at the Market through Oct. 31.

Customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the market to donate to the HLFM Food Pantry Purchase Program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to various food pantries including both Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

Dogs at the market must be under control on a tightly held non-retractable leash. Entrance for walkers and bikers is the driveway into the school off Savannah Road. Limited parking will be available in the school's bus parking lot off of Sussex Drive–with priority given to handicapped customers–and street parking will be available
