Girl Scouts present craft kits to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children

September 13, 2021

Girl Scout Cadettes Alexis Galente and Molly Daniel used personal experience to identify a way to help the community.

When Alexis’ sister was born, she had to spend time at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, and Alexis remembered doing a lot of waiting without many ways to occupy her time. That was the inspiration for their Girl Scout Silver Award project. The two girls put together craft kits so children at A.I., and their brothers and sisters would have some fun things to do.

The pair decided on their project after working through a leadership journey with the rest of the Troop 1150 Cadettes last summer over Zoom. Alexis and Molly wanted to help the children in the hospital and their siblings feel happy instead of bored, and let them know people in the community care about them.

Due to COVID restrictions, the hospital asked that each kit be individually packaged. And to avoid any mess, crafts were selected that do not need glue. The girls assembled hundreds of craft kits, and created instructions and labels for them.

Alexis and Molly delivered the assembled craft kits to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children at the end of August.
