Carol and Toby Givens opened Givens Flowers in Georgetown in 1981 and the business has flourished in the same storefront for 34 years. When it was time for the Givens to retire, they looked to none other than their family to continue their business. Chip Stevenson, the new co-owner of Givens Flowers, is the nephew of Carol and Toby.
“We talked about it at a family reunion and worked it out from there,” said Chip’s wife and co-owner Tina. She and her husband have been the official owners of the flower store since Dec. 1, 2014, and celebrated with a ribbon cutting Aug. 3. Located on East Market Street in Georgetown, Givens Flowers displays its broad range of talents by creating a variety of arrangements and offers styling for over 10 different occasions.
“We do whatever we need to do, weddings or funerals,” she said. Stevenson previously ran the Georgetown McDonald’s for 30 years. “It’s been really interesting,” said Chip Stevenson. “It’s learning a whole different industry. And it’s a business that’s been here a long time, a little small town thing. That’s pretty cool,” he said.
