Go Red fashion show held at Baywood

October 2, 2012

Beebe Medical Center sponsored the 6th Annual American Heart Association Go Red For Women luncheon and fashion show at Baywood Greens Sept. 19.

In 2004, the American Heart Association faced a challenge. Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an “older man’s disease.”

To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women - a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.

The keynote speaker for the event was Heather Raff, M.D., of Cardio Consultants of Southern Delaware. Raff said about heart disease “It is actually largely preventable.” She went on to say “Heart Disease takes lives of more women than all cancers combined.”
