Golfers, supporters help Epworth Drive Away Hunger

October 17, 2024

Nine foursomes teed off for Epworth UMC's Drive Away Hunger golf outing Oct. 5 at The American Classic Golf Club in Lewes.

Event co-chairs David Streit and Scott Button said the event raised about $16,000 that will be used to support Epworth's community outreach programs. Streit, who heads up Epworth's food pantry, said, "Funds are needed now especially as the number of people being served is growing, over 12,000, in the past year."

Epworth is also home to the Food & Love Soup Kitchen, which has been providing hot meals and fellowship for the past 13 years, and Food Rescue, which has collected this year over 100 tons of food in good condition that would otherwise have been thrown away.

The event was sponsored by Schell Brothers. Hole sponsors were County Bank, Lotus Chiropractic, McCormick & Lusk Real Estate Group, Williams Insurance Agency, Commodity Weather Group, Northrup Realty, Maplewood Dental Associates, Auto Gallery, John J. Hilt and Linda L. Bender Hilt, and Andy Brangenberg and David Hagelin. Also supporting were 1776 Steakhouse, Cultured Pearl Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Arena's Deli and Bar, Rosenfeld's Deli, and Shell We Bounce.
