May 31, 2015

Delaware Good Sam Club announces its annual 2015 Delaware State Samboree family camping event will be held Friday, Sept. 11 through Sunday, Sept. 13, with an early bird day Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington.

The Delaware State Samboree has a host of fun themed activities planned including theme costume contest, RV decorating contest and a theme basket contest. Several other planned activities include games like bean bag baseball, ice cream social, morning hospitality, Friday night games, craft and flea market, Chinese auction Saturday, gentlemen and ladies social, seminars, Samgo, optional dinner Saturday evening catered by Smith’s Family Restaurant, and door prizes.

Thursday evening there will be food and a flick. Saturday evening entertainment will be by local DJ Reedy’s DJ Connection. Sunday morning, Brittons Sight and Sound Ministry will inspire as  a beautiful chalk picture takes shape. Delaware Good Sam will be raising funds at this 2015 Family Camping Event for the following charities: Gift of Life, Dogs for Deaf, Cure SMA and a local food bank. All are invited to come have fun and raise money for some great causes.

Once a year, the Good Sam Chapters of Delaware gather in Harrington at the Delaware State Fairgrounds and host a weekend of fun, fellowship and camaraderie. Campers do not have to be Good Sam members to attend. The camping event is open to all campers, whether they camp in a tent, travel trailer, fifth wheel or motorhome.

The story behind The Good Sam Club is four decades in the making. The club takes its name from the term “Good Samaritan” and came to life in 1966 when cartoonist E.C. Bilsland Jr. sketched a dark-haired character with a broad smile and a halo to personify the spirit of Good Samaritan RVers. A group of RVers began placing Good Samaritan stickers on the bumper of their trailers while on the road to let fellow RV families know they were there to help.

The idea spread through RV parks and campgrounds across the United States and Canada. The goal remains the same now as it did in 1966: to make RVing safer and more enjoyable, and save members money through club-endorsed benefits and services. The Good Sam Club is now over 1 million RVing families strong and growing.  Members have fun, stop to help one another, and meet responsibilities to the environment, highways and parks.

There are over 2,000 active chapters in the United States and Canada. These chapters support hundreds of local charities as well as participating in civic projects such as Adopt A Highway, National Clean Up Day, Habitat For Humanity and many more.
