Goshen church gets green light to replace four windows

July 21, 2024

The Milton Historic Preservation Commission unanimously approved a plan for Goshen United Methodist Church to replace four aluminum windows with new vinyl windows at its Federal Street church.

The windows would be located on the western wall of the building, the side facing Wagamons Pond.

Aaron Rogers, Goshen’s contractor on the project, told the commission July 9 that the existing windows are not of any historical value, leak and don’t operate properly. The aluminum windows were installed in 1962 and are just single-pane glass with no energy or performance rating.

The new windows will be ProVia vinyl windows that Rogers said will be more energy efficient. He said the windows will not open, per the church’s request, because the higher windows are difficult to reach and the lower windows are near an HVAC system.

The window project comes under the purview of the historic preservation commission because the church is located within the town’s historic district; structural or material changes to properties within the historic district must first be reviewed by the commission.
