Gov. Meyer should honor Delaware farmers

April 18, 2025
I recently watched Gov. Meyer's State of the State address. I must applaud him for his support of education; as a grandfather of six of the most wonderful kids in the world, I certainly know the benefits of a good education. His support of healthcare is commendable, and I support him in this effort. I have family involved in the healthcare field and know there are tremendous needs.

Where I have a great deal of disagreement with him is his total disregard and disrespect for the largest industry in the state of Delaware, agriculture. Not once did he recognize agriculture or the hardworking farmers of Delaware, who tirelessly work to feed Delaware and the world. I’m a lifelong farmer whose family has farmed since 1865, when Abraham Lincoln was president, to put that in perspective. Delaware was known for three things: cars, credit cards and chicken. Only one is left, governor. I hope that he will recognize agriculture and the Delaware farmers in the future, and I hope that when he enjoys the fruits of our labor in this state, he thinks of the Delaware farmers.
