I am disabled, and have been hesitant about going to concerts due to my use of a motorized cart to get around. I took the initiative this time because a performer I love, Melissa Etheridge, was coming to Freeman Stage.
First off, Chris C. made the venue stress-free for me; she was awesome. I really enjoyed the experience.
Upon leaving, my husband of over 42 years, who will remain nameless, accidentally moved our car into my cart, knocking me to the side on the ground. Of course, since my accident six years ago, I had head trauma, which as anyone who had head/brain trauma knows, can cause a difference in your normal. My normal is now curse words that I never said before, now pouring out of my mouth when upset to aggravated.
Anyway, as I lay on the ground, I heard a voice of reason, of completely calm tone, from someone who came over and asked me questions to assess the situation. His name was Will, and he was dressed in a uniform. A police officer? Never really asked him. I told him getting off a floor is next to impossible without a lot of help. I am not a tiny person. He asked if I could sit upright on the ground; he pulled my cart away from me. There was a nice volunteer who held my hand. Will proceeded to stand behind me, I extended my legs straight out, and Will put his arms around me and carefully stood me up! He asked if I needed any medical attention, which I did not need. I was just a little sore, but I have a lot of happy memories for being able to go to this concert, and of Will who helped me. Thank you, Freeman, and thank you, Will!
