Groundbreaking held for new i.g. Burton & Co. facility in Milford
Local dealership i.g. Burton & Co. Inc. has broken ground for its new state-of-the-art Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat facility in Milford. The new building will be one of the first in the United States to feature a Jeep-alone dealership, and the only one of its kind on Delmarva.
“When we started working on plans for this store, we were approached by Chrysler about having a Jeep-only building as part of the new design. And it’s something that just makes a lot of sense. Jeep customers have more passion for the Jeep brand than most typical car buyers. So this will give us the opportunity to bring a lot more to the table for Jeep customers at our dealership. It’s going to be a very unique experience for them compared to the traditional dealership footprint with all brands located under one roof. I’m excited about it because it’s a great step in the right direction for a brand that is doing incredibly well. Jeep is a big part of our success at i.g. Burton & Company,” said owner Charlie Burton.
The new 28,000-square-foot facility is slated to be completed in August 2019 and will feature the latest in automotive sales and service technology. It is one of several major steps i.g. Burton & Co. has taken this year to expand its operations. The company recently acquired the former BCP Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram store in Smyrna, and the former Barrett Brothers Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram stores in Berlin, Md. Also, i.g. Burton & Co. just celebrated its 110th anniversary. Charlie Burton is the fifth generation of the Burton family to operate the company since 1908.
“I am very proud of this milestone and all of the people who have brought us to where we are today. There aren’t a lot of businesses that can say they are 110 years old. It’s very humbling. Jeep wasn’t even a brand in 1908,” said Burton.
