As a speech pathologist, I think a lot about communication and know how important it is. From the moment I met Jane Gruenebaum, I was struck by her ability to understand and articulate complex issues. But what really impressed me was the way she relates to people – all kinds of people. She actually listens, makes sure she understands them, and ensures they understand her.
Later, when I learned about her extraordinary background, I realized she is the perfect candidate to represent us on Sussex County Council.
From an education that included a master’s from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. from Columbia, she went on to teach political science at Columbia and from there to leadership positions at several policy-oriented nonprofits, including serving as the executive director of the National League of Women Voters. Experience at that level tells me she has the consensus-building and management skills to get things done for her constituents.
How lucky we are to have a person of her caliber willing to devote her time to public service.
In recent years, she helped build, and served as president of, the Sussex Preservation Coalition, an organization that brings together residents and state and local experts to discuss sustainability issues (not to be confused with the developer-funded political action committee Preserve Sussex that is supporting her opponent). The coalition works to protect wetlands and forests from development, helps ensure clean waterways, and wants us to be better prepared for severe weather events.
Jane Gruenebaum has the perfect blend of intelligence, knowledge, management ability, communication skills and concern for sustainability. And she has no ties to developers or businesses that benefit from the housing industry. It would be hard to imagine someone more qualified and better suited to represent District 3 on Sussex County Council. Please vote for Jane Gruenebaum Tuesday, Nov. 5.
