Last week at a neighbor’s home, I had the opportunity to meet Jane Gruenbaum, who is running for Sussex County Council in District 3. When listening to Jane speak, I was immediately impressed by her passion for our community and her depth of knowledge on the critical issues we are facing with urban sprawl, the health and safety of our communities, and lagging infrastructure. Jane succinctly outlined the concerns and described how she would work for us to bring thoughtful and impactful leadership with a forward-thinking approach on how to better prepare for the future of Sussex County.
Jane’s deep professional and educational background is impressive. During the most recent two years, Jane dedicated herself to working as co-founder and president of the Sussex Preservation Coalition. In this role, she helped to grow the coalition by more than 4,000 members with the goal of preserving forest and wetlands, increasing renewable nature-based practices and ensuring clean waterways.
Jane’s campaign is truly a grassroots movement. She is spending her time out in the community meeting us, the constituents. Jane is knocking on doors and speaking in gatherings in neighbors’ homes. Jane has demonstrated that she is willing to meet the community where they live and work to listen to the concerns and share her plans on how to work for us. Also of importance is that Jane is being funded by individual donations and not by builders. This immediately tells us that Jane will listen to us, the community, in finding ways to bring a balanced, commonsense approach to building and infrastructure proposals that are voted on by Sussex County Council.
