Guido E. Villacres, veteran, selfless man
Guido E. Villacres, 72, a dedicated and loving husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024.
Born in Quito, Ecuador, Guido was the fourth of five children to Herminia and Oswaldo Villacres. He grew up in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and joined the U.S. Navy after high school. Naval service led to a career in biomedical engineering. In 1985, he married the love of his life, Joyce Villareal. They created a loving home together in Silver Spring, Md., with Joyce’s son, Alexander (aka “Speedy”), and daughter, Jessica. In 2023, Joyce and Guido retired to Lewes, a lifelong dream of living at the beach.
Forever selfless, Guido was everyone's rock. He was a caretaker, a teacher, a provider, a confidant, the father to kids who weren't his own, Mr. Fix-It, a reliable New Year's Eve buddy or golfing fourth, a mover of ugly red couches, and an avid fan of the Washington Nationals and Commanders (Redskins). Guido was countless things to countless people. You need only ask.
Guido is survived by his wife, Joyce; his brothers, Mario Villacres, and Patricio Villacres and his wife Teresa; his sister, Margarita Warren and her husband Steve; and his grandchildren, Nicholas Villareal, Benjamin Villareal and Ian Cromwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herminia and Oswaldo, and his youngest sister, Carmen Villacres.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends and family may visit beginning at 10 a.m.
