Guitarist Jiji and violinist Danbi Um to perform concert Nov. 11
Coastal Concerts will present a performance by guitarist Jiji and violinist Danbi Um at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, in the Bethel United Methodist Church Hall, Fourth and Market streets, Lewes.
This powerful duo of young, genre-defying musicians presents a remarkably eclectic concert. Italian Baroque is juxtaposed with 19th-century masterpieces of Paganini; Amy Beach’s lush melodies are paired with the seductive gestures of traditional Spanish song; and the paradigm-bending program closes with Astor Piazzolla’s spirited celebration of four eras of tango.
Jiji fascinates audiences with her impeccable musicianship and diverse repertoire. The first guitarist in 30 years to secure first prize in the Concert Artists Guild Competition, Jiji’s performances range from traditional and contemporary classical to free improvisation. Beyond her musical pursuits, Jiji is a committed educator, serving as an associate professor of music in guitar at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Um, a Menuhin International Violin Competition silver medalist and Naumburg International Violin Competition prize winner, showcases her virtuosity and interpretive sensitivity in captivating concertos, intimate solo recitals and enriching chamber collaborations.
