Harold A. Hopkins, avid card player
Harold A. "Hop" Hopkins, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Silver Lake Center in Dover. Born in 1924 in Cambridge, Md., to John S. Hopkins and Carrie J. Renninger Hopkins, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Byron, Howard, Richard, Orville and two others who died as infants; and two sisters, Florence and Theodosia. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ina Wilkinson Hopkins of Dover; daughter, Catherine Hopkins Miller and her husband Richard Miller of Rehoboth Beach; sister- and brother-in-law, Audrey and Ralph Sipple of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews in Delaware, Georgia and Arizona. He was a 1942 graduate of John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna and also attended Beacom College. He served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps 744th Bomber Squadron in Italy during World War II and retired from civil service after 25 years in the finance office at Dover Air Force Base. He was a member of Wyoming United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. Mr. Hopkins enjoyed playing basketball and baseball in his younger years. He was also an avid card player and spent many happy hours with his bridge club friends in Camden and Wyoming and his hearts-playing buddies on the beach in Rehoboth. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, April 23, at Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be following the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden.
