June 13, 2023

Harry B. Clegg III, 84, of Lewes, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, at Thomas Jefferson Hospital of Neuroscience in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born July 15, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Harry B. Jr. and Catherine Clegg.

Harry lived in New Jersey for more than 50 years, relocating to Delaware in 2016. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Association and a 45-year member of the Local 24. Harry was a firm believer in work hard, play harder. A member of Phoenix Sports Club, he was active in soccer, fistball, and softball, and was a Roanoke College Hall of Fame Athlete, inducted in 1961. Harry shared his love of sports as a coach as well, lending his athletic expertise to the girls’ basketball team at St. Francis Cabrini School. He had many interests and hobbies that coastal living afforded him the opportunity to indulge in, including sailboat racing and building. Above all, Harry cherished the time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Peggy Clegg of Lewes; his daughters, Sherry Satchel, Heather Sanders, Shannon Clegg and Katie Lynn Clegg; his three grandsons; his nine granddaughters; and his 10 great-grandchildren.
