Harry J. Elliott, heavy equipment operator

Harry J. Elliott, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Tuesday, June 18, 2024. He was born in Gumboro, son of the late Paul and Helen (Hickman) Elliott.

Harry dedicated many years of his life working as a heavy equipment operator for DelDOT.  He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed spending time at flea markets with his son.  Known for his sense of humor, Harry loved telling jokes and cherished his daily coffee gatherings with friends.  He had a reputation for never knowing a stranger and had a knack for making friends wherever he went.  In addition, he was also known for providing an abundance of snacks to family and friends. Harry always looked forward to attending Carey’s Camp each year.  In his downtime, he simply enjoyed watching and caring for his assortment of animals and pets. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Evelyn Elliott, Roscoe Elliott, Rubin Elliott, Martha Collins, Betty West and Jimmy Elliott; as well as his spoiled fur baby, Cuddles. 

Harry is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Carol B. Elliott; and his children, Debbie Elliott, Harry Dale Elliott (Kim) and Crystal Elliott. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Brittany Childress, Ryan Benson, Ashlyn Elliott, Brooke Elliott and Logan Richardson; as well as his siblings, Pauline Todd, Lorraine Clark, Reba Evans, Shirley Powell, Vernon Elliott, Roland Elliott and Judy Wilkerson; and numerous great-grandchildren and extended family.      

Services will be private.

Harry’s warmth, humor, and love for his family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
