Harry A. Moore, served community
Harry A. Moore, 79, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born in Hempstead, N.Y., April 27, 1931, son of the late Harry J. and Mabel (Seaman) Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Doris Moore Sharp.
Mr. Moore enjoyed a 40-year career as an outside salesman and estimator, selling plumbing, heating and air-conditioning products wholesale to licensed contractors. He also worked as a funeral home associate for Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium for 18 years. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church since 1951 and sang in the church choir for over 60 years as a baritone soloist. He was asked to sing for many occasions throughout the United States and Canada. He was very active in his church community serving as a member of the board of trustees and the Bethel Cemetery Corporation.
Mr. Moore was installed as worshipful master of Jefferson Lodge 15 in 1960; installed as worthy patron of Unity Chapter 16, O.E.S. with his wife Joan as worthy matron in 1970; installed as worthy grand patron, Grand Chapter of Delaware, O.E.S. in 1974-75. In 1989, he was elected potentate of NUR Shrine, serving on the divan for eight years, as membership chairman for five years, and being first line signer on 85 petitions. In 1993, Mr. Moore was honored to receive the 33rd degree in Boston, Mass.
Mr. Moore tirelessly served his community for many years on the Cape Henlopen Board of Education and as scoutmaster of Troop 1, Lewes from 1966-75. He was also honored to serve with the U.S. Coast Guard for three years from 1950-53.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 58 years, Joan L. (Dorman) Moore; two sons: Harry Brent Moore and wife Nancy of Lewes and Mark Duane Moore and wife Barbara of Lewes; a daughter, Jayne Elizabeth Leitzel and husband Wayne of York, Pa.; four grandchildren: Mark Moore Jr. and wife Sara, Lauri Vent and husband Eric, Jordan Moore and Jesse Moore; and two great-grandsons: Cruz Vent and Mason Moore.
Funeral services with Pastor Fred Duncan officiating will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 15, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. Fourth St., Lewes. Friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 14, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where Masonic and Eastern Star services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also visit from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday at the church. Interment will be private at Bethel Methodist Cemetery.
